Throughout the last few decades, Movies and TV have been a focal point of American culture as they entertained the masses. As a way to appeal to their audiences, Movies and TV have often incorporated products which are relevant to its viewers, so it’s no surprise that sleep apnea and CPAP (with millions of users nationwide) has had its fair share of cameos on the big screen.
Here’s a short list of some of CPAP’s biggest moments in Hollywood:
1. Angela in The Office
While we all know Angela for her snarky comments and her interesting relationship with Dwight, one thing that many fans don’t know about her is that she has sleep apnea. Although we don’t see her wearing a CPAP mask, we do see Dwight giving Angela her CPAP and mask, which appear to be outdated. As someone who loves fiscal responsibility, Angela should check with her insurance to see if she can get a new CPAP covered, which would be quite the upgrade from her old S8 model!
If you’re in the same boat as Angela and want to upgrade your CPAP, insurance typically covers a new machine every five years.
Your new CPAP could be yours for $0! Allow us to check with your insurance provider for you to find out what is covered for free.
2. Anita De Marco in Orange is the New Black
Anita’s role is important because it just goes to show you: orange isn’t the new black – CPAP treatment is! Even though Orange is the New Black finished last decade, the real blast from the past in this scene is Anita’s choice of CPAP. She really needs to upgrade to the AirSense 11, the latest Smart CPAP from ResMed.
ResMed AirSense 11 AutoSet features:
- “Smartest” CPAP on the market
- Automatically adjusts pressure to fit your needs
- Heated humidification and whisper quiet technology

3. Abby in Wine Country
There’s a brief scene in the movie where Abby (played by Amy Poehler) is featured with a CPAP next to her bed, and she puts on her CPAP mask before going to sleep (she actually uses her real CPAP during this scene!). Amy has the right idea: an auto CPAP is the perfect upgrade. ResMed has a travel auto CPAP with advanced features!
ResMed’s AirMini Travel CPAP features:
- Travel CPAP device with sleek, low-profile design
- Control in the palm of your hand
- Auto-adjusts pressure to fit your unique needs

4. Mike in Mike & Molly
In one scene, Molly reaches for her laptop and when she turns around, Mike is wearing his CPAP mask. Mike assures her that it keeps him from snoring – to which Molly retorts, “That’s just what makes it so hot… please leave it on.” Mike is wearing an older nasal mask system, but he should really think about upgrading to the new AirFit N30, ResMed’s lightest mask yet.
ResMed AirFit N30 features:
- Nasal cradle cushion provides an excellent seal
- QuickFit™ elastic headgear makes it easy to fit
- Single side-clip and split bands provide added adjustability

5. Junior Soprano in The Sopranos
In the show, Junior Soprano – the aging mobster – is prescribed a CPAP mask for his obstructive sleep apnea after a heart attack scare. Junior doesn’t look too enthusiastic in this picture, probably because they didn’t give him Fisher & Paykel’s Brevida Nasal Pillows Mask, whose minimalist design gives maximum comfort and mobility while sleeping.
Fisher & Paykel Brevida features:
- AirPillow cushion for a gentle and effective seal
- Single strap headgear for a minimal, comfortable fit
- Washable diffuser for a quiet therapy experience

6. Homer Simpson in The Simpsons
In this scene, Homer finally gets the CPAP machine he needs, but things take a turn when Marge can’t figure out how to properly put on the mask and tube (to be honest, she still did better than the first time I tried to put one together). Instead of using this old nasal mask, Homer probably should upgrade to the ResMed AirFit F30, a sleek full-face mask which will give him the CPAP experience he deserves.
ResMed AirFit F30 features:
- Sleek full-face mask featuring under the nose design
- Cushion made to reduce red marks and irritations
- Adjustable straps to accommodate a variety of facial structures
