How it Works with Other Companies
Many CPAP providers will bill your insurance automatically every three months and send you supplies with no upfront cost to you. Seems great right? It can be for some, but for others there are some very real drawbacks. You are eligible for new supplies based on the schedule below:
This is a great guideline but more often than not, this ends up being more than you really need. Patients have complained that they are receiving more than they can use and their insurance is being billed unnecessarily. To make matters worse, you could end up with some steep charges months after you get the supplies.
Say, for example, your insurance is billed for some supplies and they refuse to pay the full amount, the other company doesn’t eat that cost. It’s passed right on to you. Supplies that were free are now costing you an arm and a leg.
You can also end up with a surprise bill when your deductible resets at the beginning of the year. At the end of 2015 your supplies were completely covered, but with the new year comes a new deductible and you are being billed the full amount for supplies, you might not need or want.
