Dear Easy Breathe:
I am going to Europe next week on my honeymoon. I want to have a lot of energy and I don’t want to snore all night long. So, I want to bring my CPAP to take care of my sleep apnea, but I’m really worried that I won’t be able to plug it into those European outlets. I don’t want it to short out. What should I do? Can I bring my CPAP with me to Europe?
– Honeymooner in Trouble
Dear Honeymooner in Trouble:
CPAP machines have built in converters which makes switching from 110 voltage to 220 voltage no problem for your machine. It won’t short out! However, just like other countries have different languages – they also have different outlets. This is why you’ll need to bring the 5 Piece International AC Plug Converter package. You can also use the TraveLite Adapter-Ultra Compact All-In-One Travel Adapter, which offers multiple adapters in one compact package. These adapters will allow you to plug in your CPAP and get the therapy you need in almost any country around the world. You also may want to try a travel CPAP so you don’t have to haul a heavy CPAP on your European adventure. Hope that helps and have a great honeymoon!
Dear Easy Breathe:
I am not very crafty and I know my way around a sewing machine about as well as a blind man knows his way around a cave, so I have been using safety pins to hold my old headgear together. The only problem with this is that the safety pins keep poking me in the middle of the night and the headgear is getting worse and worse. I should mention that my mask is totally fine – it’s my headgear that is totally messed up. I don’t want to pay for a whole new kit. What do I do?
– Uncrafty in Fort Worth
Dear Uncrafty in Fort Worth:
You can put down those safety pins and you can toss out that old raggedy headgear, because you can definitely purchase headgear separately from the mask. In fact, you can purchase backup headgear for almost any type of CPAP mask. Just a word of advice – you can also purchase CPAP masks separately when you are ready for an upgrade. The last thing you want is to be holding your mask together with safety pins.
Dear Easy Breathe:
I have a huge bushy beard, like a lumberjack/Father Time beard that may have corn flakes stuck inside it from when Reagan was president, and I have been having a lot of trouble finding a CPAP mask that will fit comfortably. Can you suggest anything?
– Bushy in Buffalo
Dear Bushy in Buffalo:
You must be very proud of your beard and don’t want to shave it. That’s okay – you don’t have to. But what I would recommend is that you get your hands on a nasal pillow mask. These masks have minimal headgear and they won’t cover your face. Nasal pillow masks fit comfortably in your nostrils using a padded seal. If your beard is as big as you say it is, you may want to go for the Swift FX Mask System – the headgear will hover right above your beard line.
Dear Easy Breathe:
I have sleep apnea and it sucks a lot, but CPAP has literally changed my life. But right now I am having a bit of a panic attack because my machine broke and I just moved to a new state. I don’t have a doctor yet so I can’t get a CPAP prescription. What should I do!?
